Dick Devos Career Life and Philanthropy

Dick Devos is an American based entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the son of Richard Devos, the co-founder of Amway. Dick Devos business career involved the management of different companies at different levels. He was an executive at Amway, Orlando Magic, and the Windquest Group where he currently holds the position of president. As the CEO of the consumer goods distribution company, Dick responsibility involved taking charge of the company’s operation both at the local and international level. Amway has its presence in over 50 countries on six continents. In the final year before he left the company, Amway made $4.5 billion in sales. Before Dick’s presidency, he served as an executive V.P and managed the company’s operations in 18 countries. During his tenure as the vice president, the company’s international sales tripled surpassing the domestic sales for the first time. In 1991, Devos family acquired Orlando Magic. Dick became the chief executive of the basketball team. He served in that position for three years.

 

Philanthropy

 

The Devos family is widely involved in philanthropic activities. Dick Devos is no exceptional. He contributes to charity at different levels. Devos is a leader in a variety of community activities. Additionally, he is an active participant in community development programs. Dick pioneered the start of Education Freedom Fund. Through this program over 4000 children have benefited from scholarship opportunities. Dick Devos is the founder of West Michigan Aviation Academy, a school for children with interest in aviation. The school is a tuition-free public school for students aspiring to join the aviation industry.

 

According to dickdevos.com, Dick served on the State Board of Education. He has co-chaired in healthcare and revitalization community programs. The programs include the revitalization of a $212 convention center, the Downtown Market in Michigan, and $75 million downtown area. Some of the community health programs in which Dick managed include the construction of a $139 million heart hospital and a $90 million medical school. Together with his wife Betsy Devos, they founded the Dick and Betsy Devos Family Foundation. Through the organization, they make donations towards education, arts, justice, the community, and leadership.

 

Personal Life

 

Dick Devos is the spouse to Betsy Devos, the current Secretary for Education in the States. Together, they have four children. Ryan, Andrea, Richard, and Elisabeth. They are grandparents of five children. In a recent interview with the Philanthropy Roundtable, Betsy said that their input towards education reforms was as a result of the sacrifice parents undergo to have their children study in the best schools. She is an advocate for School Choice Program.
